About The Artwork

Visual Interpretation CR Rousseau, Abstract Artist This vibrant work was inspired by the infamous, green Versace dresses worn by Jennifer Lopez Versace in both 2000 and 2019. In fact, it was the most searched dress on the internet, inspiring Google to create Google Images. While the 2000 and 2019 dresses were different, both were made of a sheer chiffon and decorated with an assortment of leafy greenery and palms. Donatella Versace, who was inspired by the work of her late brother, Gianni Versace, designed this dress. She loved Gianni Versace’s bold and flamboyant designs and created this as a tribute to her brother’s signature style. The original dress became an instant icon after Lopez wore it to the Grammy Awards, helping launch Lopez’s career as a fashion icon and is recognizable dresses in fashion history. In this painting, I present a peaceful and centered canvas, shaped within an expansion of light at the top with layers that blow outward in a inferred heartshape composition. In the Sacral Chakra position on the canvas, it is weighted by circle etchings that signify balance and interconnectedness, inspired by the shape of the brooch centered on each Versace dress. The painting flows outward like the energy of a dress when the hemline is thrown outward with passionate vitality by the woman wearing it. Experimenting in a fauvist style using bold and expressive brushstrokes, I used colors that are soft, light in application, yet rich with a predominance of green and blue. My overall intent for this work is a feeling of softness, warmth and a natural opulence. *This piece was shown at Rousseau's debut solo exhibit in New York at New York Fashion Week.

Pulling bold yet peaceful color palettes together, CR Rousseau creates dreamlike paintings with play and discovery. She likes to explore styles and challenge previous approaches using oil, acrylic, water color, ink and all forms of mixed media making each series unique. Once informally referred to as the Eighth of "The Group of Seven", CR Rousseau is privileged to be thought of as an American cousin to this distinctive style. Elegantly breaking away from traditional landscapes, she embraces a personalized sense of the natural world with twists of imbued color wrapped into abstract forms. This work was integral to the evolution of her new abstract expressionist work (not yet shown online). Exhibiting primarily in Seattle, Edmonds and Bainbridge Island, Washington, as well as in Sausalito, San Francisco, Carmel-by-the-Sea and Santa Barbara, California. Rousseau's work can also be found internationally in private collections and Global Art Fairs, such as Canvas International Art Fair in Venice, Italy.
