Cleveringa utilises the conceptual metaphor of the 'filter' and the 'screenshot' as as an aesthetic mechanism, as well as an actual art making process, to deconstruct and reconstruct imagery as an analogy of global cultural change created via the mobile phone changing identity with it's social impacts. He takes a snapshot in time by creating a final defined screenshot image as part of the artists process: as the final artwork or; as inspiration for further artworks such as video art, painting or installation. . This artwork inspired by clashing minute pixel images and enlargening it by screenshots and reducing it again until an electronic sketch is created (that the artist enjoys) and he then uses that inspiration to create this painting on a wood canvas. Images are part of the art and can vary depending on the random misuse of free apps and mark making. As a result there tends to be varying series a paintings created in varying styles. The image is the end result of the artistic process. Resin is used to produce a high gloss finish to emulate the mobile phones glass screen. The black borders up top and on the bottom are likened to a screenshot that is taken by the phone and part of the artistic process. The black screenshot frame is an artistic device used by the artist to describe the process of changes happening by the impact of phone apps and technology globally. Currently, there are 3 billion mobile or cell phone users in the world changing our global culture and our psycho-social perceptions about beauty and interpersonal relationships and social patterns.
