Beginning with a love of earthen tones from the rust on iron facades and the chipping of old paint to the various shades of pink that now dominate my work, this series in red has been the most important. All these years my abstractions started from earthen tones, to blue series and travelled through many colours. I have worked extensively with pastels and acrylics. This particular series in red was created due to my attraction to it's bold and dangerous quality, the implication of fear it invokes and the fearlessness with which it does it. For me, the work has ties to the terracotta that I saw in the fields in my home that would shed into my hands if I touched it and the flower pots in my home as a child that were as big as I was. Strong memories of my childhood and past reflect in my series. I have worked on this series almost exclusively on paper, rough textured paper to remind myself of how I felt when I gently grazed the red flower pots
