Untitled Wall Hanging Painting

This is a ceramic wall hanging made of stoneware and fired at cone 10. The different types of glazes give it a painting-like surface quality. Gesso and oil paint is integrated into the composition. “THINGS CAN BECOME SPECIAL IN THE RIGHT LIGHT” The knowledge that the imagery on the surface would eventually turn to figuration from the abstract and ephemeral… that the process is to be seen in its entirety and not as a static narrative of what “things are”. indeed! that it already does go from one pole to another as if in search of some “right place” in which to be a painting. This is reflected on the macro, in the whole ouvre, and on the individual level of each piece’s surface. the collective history and the individual … in two of these there is the common theme of HOME as expressed by high end design… pleasing comfort, aesthetics. yet others have only my individual gestures on them beneath the film of oil. Migrates and finds, settles (economic, wellness, safety) and unsettles (existential, universal void, beyond material needs or abilities).
