My practice is very much process driven. I am vigorously interrogating paint and its surface, creating relationships and dialogues between canvas structures. These paintings are heavily based on the movement of paint, with the physical act of myself pouring paint against the unstoppable force of gravity. I am intrigued by how the paint reacts to these acts, how paint is free to slide from its surface(canvas) and escapes spilling onto another surface(canvas) that is placed against the wall or on the floor. This process I use allows me to make decisions on where paint is poured regarding the first surface, but then takes all control away from what happens to the corresponding surface. Making the element of chance and uncertainty recurring themes within my practice. Leaving painterly traces behind wether that be drips down a wall or in pools on the floor. I find this a really exciting notion, that paint can take on its own life and can have the sense that it is never ending spilling out into the surrounding space. The exploration of what happens when you take away a painting from the place in which it was created, the extended art opening up new and exciting possibilities for the work. Recently I have been working with clear primed canvases as I believe there are links to Art history within my paintings. They are very much paintings about paint but they are also challenging sculpture, in the sense that I am creating these structures to pour onto. Therefore, making the canvas an object and exposing painterly materials (raw canvas). I strongly believe that my work is purely what you see I don't want there to be outside influences brought into it, which is why there is no specific meaning. They are purely about paint and material. Colour has always been applied using playfully vibrant pigments that are strikingly contrasted, enhancing the energetic movement of the paint.
