About The Artwork
The theme of the minotaur or the centaur is on the one hand a representation of human fear but at the same time the embodiment of hypocrisy and duplicity. The centaur is a metaphor, the embodiment of rough force which submits. In art history it has been represented with great leniency but in fact he is a brute, a force of evil. The context in which I see it is closely related to Kitch, a dark, almost apocalyptic representation, with vague traces of Decadent Romanticism.

I consider my work to be an immersion into art history. I say this because I draw on my excursions into artistic expression from the ancient world to contemporary provocations. I explore a full range of classical themes including nudes, landscapes, still life and various techniques such as glazing, leaking, dripping. I am most comfortable when I can merge figuratism, abstract metaphysics, surrealism and expressionism. Put simply, I would say my paintings are figuratism achieved through abstract and expressionist means.
