Up and Away Painting

“Up and Away” is named for several tiny butterfly depicted in the painting's upper left hand corner. The artist was inspired to make this work after she spent a summer evening in a friend's garden. There, the butterflies were active around a flowering bush, almost mimicking the shape of the bush's white petals. By nighttime, they were gone, and soon too, the artist. Due to its striking colors, “Up and Away” is a powerful painting, but its message is somehow tender. It reflects on the symbiosis between plants and other organisms who are drawn to them, including the avid gardener. This painting is part of the artist's “Habitat” series, which is a celebration of trees, plants, botanical forms and animals. The painting is stretched on a frame and is easy to hang.
