About The Artwork
I began this painting with the intention of letting it unfold, without the use of a ruler or compass, just freeform, even though the arches are somewhat precise. I began with the form coming off of the bottom left, which guided the unfolding of everything else. The colors took on a life of their own, but as you can see, it's underlying theme is purple (maybe not so underlying!). I experienced as sense of the mystery as the painting continued, and I hope the viewer experiences this as well.

Abstract painting is a way to find balance and harmony, through color, and composition, and trust. I begin a painting with no idea how it will evolve. I find joy in the simple experience of colors vibrating together, shapes beginning to find harmony with each other, and finally, a sense of the painting beginning to "sing" to me.
