View from The Eastern Shore with Acacia Logifolia in Fowlers Jar, was painted from my home on the Eastern shore of the Derwent River in Hobart. I depict an Acacia Logifolia cutting in a Fowlers No. 27 preserving jar on the window-sill of my living room. Beyond, segmented by the steel frame window, is the expanse of the Derwent River, the Domain, kunanyi and Mount Dromedary. I have used a combination of techniques - water-color applied on the raw canvas, masking and scratching deep into the impasto oil paint - to weave the cutting back into the landscape from which it came. Accompanying the cutting and jar in this still life is a skull collected down by the waters edge as well as a couple of books by my favourite authors. The Border Trilogy by the late Cormac McCarthy and The Wind Up-Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami.
