About The Artwork

'Vintage Dress II' is one of only a few remaining figurative works available from the artist's figurative painting years of 2000 - 2016. This work was inspired by a handmade vintage dress from the 1940s which was given to the artist by a family member. The muted violet color of the dress's lace is enhanced by the Venetian red background. This painting is created in oil on double primed canvas. Professionally framed in a warm pewter-colored (cool light gold) frame made of carved wood ( selected specifically for the piece by the framer to enhance the ambiance of the work), this painting is ready to hang with framed dimensions of 32" x 26" x 2" The work has been sealed with Gamblin Gamar varnish for UV protection. The painting, signed on the front and back, will be sent with a certificate of authenticity

Born in Montreal, Quebec, Joyce is an internationally collected Multidisciplinary Painter and Sculptor living and working in Toronto. While her main focus is Abstract Expressionist painting, she also has a passion for sculpting and drawing the human form for which she was academically trained. Over the last twelve years, Joyce has exhibited in solo and group shows within Canada and internationally. Featured on several occasions in American Art Collector magazine since 2009, her work is found in private and public collections in Canada, the USA, and Europe. STATEMENT "My paintings are Abstract Expressionist and entirely conceptual. They are bold and passionate created with conviction in response to a specific emotion or state of being. Working medium to large in size I start by randomly applying heavy-bodied Gesso to the canvas to create a geometric design. I then use this design as a template for acrylic paint application. I rarely use colour directly from the tube and prefer instead to mix my own. I feel this lends an intimacy to the work. Using large brushes and/or palette knives I allow some paint to drip while scraping out various areas to reveal the underpainting. My goal is to say as much as possible without having a big discussion. I want people to see what uniquely speaks to them, depending on their own situation. People see different things in my work. Movement, Colour, and Passion are words I often hear people use when they speak about my work. I have been most influenced by the great Abstract Expressionists of post-World War II America. Specifically, I feel my work most resembles what one would see if Robert Motherwell, Franz Kline, and Hans Hofmann had collaborated to paint something together."
