Sandy Parris was born in Valders, WI. As a small child she was interested in drawing and creating images. After high school she attended and graduated from Layton Art School in Milwaukee, WI with a degree in Advertising Design. Upon graduating from Layton she got a job illustrating greeting cards at Hallmark Card Company in Kansas City, MO. That is where she met and married her husband, a pilot in the Air Force. After living in many different places around the world with her husband and two daughters they settled in Folsom, CA in 1978. During this time she returned to school and received her MA from California State University, Sacramento. An active painter throughout her life, Sandy has shown at galleries in Northern CA, Las Vegas, Chicago and New York City. She was also selected to attend a three month artist in residency program at Villa Montalvo in Saratoga, CA. Sandy has won numerous awards over the years for her artwork. Her artwork has been collected by public and private collectors in New York City, Chicago, Cape Cod, San Francisco and the Sacramento area. Sandy works intuitively, allowing her artwork to help guide her. Nature and her own life experiences have provided important inspiration in her art. Using her personal imagery and motifs to convey her thoughts and feelings. The process of painting is paramount to her. She desires to show the history of work by building up the surface with transparent layers of mixed-media and then often wiping away layers… revealing in each piece the step by step struggle it takes to achieve a painting. The process of construction and deconstruction is essential to her art.
