About The Artwork

Frank Stella's later high relief work was a starting point for this work. However, I wanted to make sure that there was no scaffolding to spoil the look of the finished work. I simply invented a fantastic shape spontaneously. The design evolved as I proceeded with it day to day I like high relief work that one can look at for a while and still not quite see how it's constructed. You'll never look at any of my work and dismiss it to memory in a split second. I want the viewer to say WTF is this I'm looking at and then try to puzzle it out. How was it made, what does it remind you of. Who does it remind you of and last but not least my work is a little tongue in cheek, a bit of fun for a moment or two. I don't like taking life too seriously. I've been lucky in so far I've had a very easy and interesting life. Anyway, up to now that's been the case. I'm 72 now, so one has to be cheerful and keep going. I'm as fit as a butcher's dog, so I should be OK for about another 50 years. You ain't seen nothin' yet ! - Kind regards - Chris ..... PS ... keep reading It's now 2021, and I'm now 75. I entered this piece into the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition two years ago but it wasn't accepted. Trouble is I'm here in Thailand and they wanted someone to take it to the Royal Academy on a fixed date between certain times of the day. I live 5,000 miles away so that proved impossible, unless I got on a plane and stayed in London a few days. It rather shows that people living outside of the UK have little or no chance of being accepted. BUT they had no trouble at all accepting my submission fee of about thirty pounds, which I never got given back to me. And they also insisted that I was registered for VAT in the UK. I live here permanently in Thailand. So I registered for VAT in the UK and got that done, but I was still rejected by the Royal Academy. But then three months later, the VAT people demanded I send them a VAT return. I didn't because I'd sold nothing. So then they sent me a demand for payment of a "late VAT tax return and said they'd take me to court if I didn't pay. I wrote back and explained everything, but they never replied. So I've come to the conclusion that the Royal Academy don't know their arse from their elbow. Have you any experience with them ? Let me know in the comments section below. I'd be very interested Kind regards - Chris Newton

I was born in the very beautiful town called Llandudno in North Wales. It's just across the Conway River were stands a huge 1,000 year old Norman Castle. The scenery is spectacular to say the least I grew up in Liverpool and worked there in engineering as a teenager and young man. I then moved to The Wirral and lived there for over ten years About 16 years ago I bought an incredible apartment here in Thailand and started a family. I now have two children aged nine and eleven. We have a big UK style bar restaurant here where everyone goes to socialise. There's lots of guys who work in the oil and gas industry. They're clever, witty and sociable. This is a very laid back fun lifestyle. Oh, and there's quite a few ex military guys. Oh and of course one or two gangsters. And that's just the expats. I'm retired, so I have lots of spare time, but now I've started painting again and that's been a labour of love. I don't take myself too seriously, and like to think I've a good sense of humour, and I hope that's reflected in my paintings. I do hope you like them, and then want to buy them ! Do leave a comment please. Something like "brilliant or superb" .... I'll be very happy with that !
