Water is not only found in the sea. Drop by drop, it forms rivulets on glaciers that melt under the sun. It runs down, falls from mountain heights and forms moist clouds. Water rumbles over boulders and rocks, polishing and shaping them by its energy and consistency alone. Water ends up in turquoise flats of lakes. Observations of water in all states of aggregation in mountains of Germany and Switzerland are the basis of the series of works "The way of water". In my works I often use gold leaf to reflect light. In combination with colors of the painting, this reproduces the coolness and purity of mountain streams and reservoirs, those pristine landscapes that are so rare today. I do not depict water directly, but through objects that are adjacent to or inside water.

Lightfull lightness is the key element of Elena Starostina paintings. Either garden flowers, city views and roofs or landscapes, gently brushstrokes evoke their timeless life-affirming tension and reduced color settings give an abstracted hint to reality, leaving room for the viewer to dream along in an flourishing impressionistic style, including dusky moods. Classical education, more applied, than academic, leads to casual nude paintings. Atmosphere of buildings is deepend with empathy for history by linking sentences and sources. Sensibility expresses in these paintings, which was experienced outdoor, thus they are artful, but not artificial. Dr. Phil. Dirk Tölke, art historian
