This piece was inspired by both the mood I was in at the time and the following poetic excerpt, written by Rainer Maria Rilke + translated by Joanna Macy and Anita Barrows: "You, sent out beyond your recall, go to the limits of your longing. Embody me. Flare up like a flame and make big shadows I can move in. Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final. Don't let yourself lose me..." [Book of Hours, I 59] This piece may evoke for the viewer the paradoxical interplay between beauty and pain; black and white; complexity and simplicity.
