About The Artwork

watercolour on hand-made sekishu-shi paper My work is always fighting between the need to try to find meaningfulness in my life and actions and stripping down all the man-made myths and lies that sustain ‘life’ without nourishing the human spirit. These dancing lines are faded. Are they getting stronger or fading? What is their relationship to each other – and to the space they are moving in? This is a painting of questions for me. I find questions important - even if I don’t find answer because they enable me to put my life, problems and everything else in perspective. It’s part of me being a sentient (and serious) being. As with all my paintings, I see it differently almost every time I look at it: new questions, sometimes even the beginnings of an answer … . Dimensions above include frame (unframed: 107 x 412 mm.)

‘My pictures are songs: explosions of energy, meaning and communication. They are spurs for communication with the self and others.’ (Persi Darukhanawala) Persi Darukhanawala’s minimal pictures explore the uncertainty (and so, de facto, excitement) of life (ars longa, vita brevis). With multivalent richness, Darukhanawala’s painting-songs somehow communicate endless, elusive psychologies rather than reproducing already-known visuals. Like the vibrant songs with which they have polylogues, the paintings are life-embracing, positive but equally critical and the product of a spirit in revolt (‘l’homme révolté’). Darukhanawala has attracted sustained interest from academics, critics, individual collectors as well as design houses and hotels. He was shortlisted for the prestigious Art Olympia 2017 in Tokyo, Japan.
