About The Artwork

The Pecos Bill character was created by the writer Edward O’ Reilly on 1923. In his story he tells that a child fell down from the stagecoach where he was travelling with his parents. He was than harvested and brad by a family of coyotes, along the banks of the river Pecos, between New Mexico and Texas, to turn as an adult into the most legendary figure in the world of the Far West cow-boys. Pecos Bill’s adventures have been the subject of cinematographic narrations and various comic book stories that, especially in Italy, have had a great success, thanks to the work of the publishing house Mondadori that, in the early fifties, released the series in its Golden Albums, of which I have been, as a kid, a diligent and delighted reader. Proof of this is a picture taken by my father, on 1953, in which I’m portrayed in the garden of our house, in the road Citolo da Perugia in Padua, dressed as a perfect cow-boy, with the beautiful combination that, for my seventh birthday, had brought to me my godfather, an old friend of my father, Count Venanzo Mayo. The gift counted with various clothes: the wide-brimmed hat, decorated with gold embroidery, a short leader vest with fringes, the belt with the bullets and the holster of a silver Colt, the trouser-cover in suede leather and finally, the long gloves in black leather. This picture remembers that little cow-boy I have been many hears ago.
