About The Artwork
This painting is painted in an arroyo in Baja California in Mexico. An arroyo is a dry river and I sat in this dry river for a week to paint it. It was wonderfull to sit there in the quiet space where the only sounds were those of birds singing. I hope viewers feel the wildness and tranquility that oozes from this painting. On the one hand there is a very dry desert landscape with a wild fig tree and on the other hand there is quietness and calmness. This contradiction I tried to capture in the painting. The result is, in my opinion, a psychedelic image that speaks to you about surviving and a lust for life.

I live in Groningen a town in the north of The Netherlands. I get my inspiration from the living nature, people and the world around me. I love especially the variety and complexity of everyting and everyone who lives in the here (where ever that might be) and the now. I work with oilpaint on canvas because oil gives the best colors. Also oil has the capacity to hold the emotions and the atmospere into the paint. So that if you look at the painting for a longer time it really comes to life. I like to paint directly 'en plein air'. For me color is the most important. Before form there is color.
