I am so pleased to share with you my 2022 edition of Winter Solstice! Every year I create a special work of Joy dedicated to the magical, most optimistic day of the year—Winter Solstice. It is a day that has brought me so much Joy since I moved to the dark and murky wonderland of the PNW. After months of grey and rain, Winter Solstice brings the promise of more light, longer days, and warm sunbeams. In the middle of all the darkness, Winter Solstice is a beacon of hope And that’s why, these special collector’s edition paintings are at heart of The Joy Project—they embody the light in darkness that Joy brings to our daily lives. This fifth edition of Winter Solstice was inspired by the the desire for recovery after a long struggle. This piece was inspired by what has brought me hope and Joy each morning--seeing the sun's glimmers and light emerging through the deep green cedars, glinting on the water, rising behind the mountains, and spreading into the soft grey clouds. I have been particularly obsessed with the way the sun's golden light moves through the cedars, marking the sky and outlining the branches in gold as it moves. I wanted to create that feeling in this special edition of Winter Solstice, so you will see glimmers of warm, golden light emerging through the dark greens and blues. It has a soft mix of warm and cool colors, bringing a balance to this pivotal time of year. There is hope abundant.

My works are held in private collections in Seattle, New York, London, Washington DC, Virginia, California, and around the world. Born in London, England, my parents and I emigrated to the States when I was two. I hold an MFA in Visual Arts at the Vermont College of Fine Arts, an MA from The George Washington University, and a BA from Davidson College. I am married to a retired U.S. Marine, Tom, and we live in Seattle with our beloved Golden Chow, Mory, aka Studio Dog.
