About The Artwork
Inspired by street art I combined figurative painting and stencils. The figure was meant to evoke classical academic figure drawing while the funny comic stencils energised the surface. It organically grew to represent fear/worries around being happy and care-free. I find it hard to relax and just live in the moment as I am overly anxious and overly analytical. I often reject happiness as I feel unworthy of love or friendship. I feel I need to lighten up and accept happiness- just be me and get on with it. A bro once said "what's so good about thinking anyway", I dont know what this actually means but I use it as a mantra to relax.

Craig Knight gained his BA (Hons) Fine Art from Hull College of HE and PGCE Fine Art from St Martins, Lancaster. He is a figurative painter with eclectic interests ranging from comics/graphic novels, graffiti to fine art and philosophy (as lowbrow and highbrow as possible). His paintings develop organically as part of a problem-solving process to gain the illusion of control and deal with personal feelings, social relationships, the structure of memories and the construction of identity. Crowded Neo-Pop imagery is employed as metaphor for conceptual confusion, joy created in the dialogue between artist and audience- sharing references, meaning and confusion.
