About The Artwork

The inspiration for this painting came from my research of the Japanese Geisha. I was amazed to find out that under the beautiful elegant Kimono there is another story to be told once the Geisha is de robed. This does not apply to all Geisha but some follow another path and that is with the Yakuza. It is an honour to have these tattoos and shows class distinction according to what and how many tattoos one has. I have painted the tattoo as true to the real ones, the Geisha's face is still painted as she has just taken off her Kimono after work. Here we have the contrasts of the two lifestyles, Geisha by day and Yakuza girl by night.

I paint most days, have been for some 20years now. Life is art to me, and art is life.I am inspired by the old masters of Renaissance and the Pre Raphaelites. After many years in the fashion industry Peta was ready for a change of direction......Painting on a large scale art that looked three dimensional, called Trompe L'oeil. Paintings were commissioned for both commercial and residential clients in Australia and South East Asia. Peta's work regularly appeared on television and in many magazines, House and Garden Year Book1999 , Country Looks Magazine, " Belle" Home Beautiful. The Melbourne Age Newspaper " Domaine" and many more . In 2000 Peta then moved on to create a coffee table book of her own all about her knowledge and experiences in the art world of illusion, called "Creating Grand Illusions" documenting her work over the past twenty years. It has sold Nationally and Internationally. Peta has now scaled down her art and paints on canvas. She paints all her images directly on to the canvas, painting in layers of colour using acrylic paint building up layers of colour creating a translucent affect. Some work is figurative and some are of flowers.
