About The Artwork

What the artist likes to put on canvas are the characters, the cultures that make him dream and influence him during his life. here it is Yaşar Kemal (francized in Yachar Kemal, of his real name Kemal Sadık Gökçeli) is a Turkish novelist and journalist, of Kurdish origin. Yasar Kemal literary success: His first novel Mèmed le Mince was successful in 1955, growing success which earned him the prospect of winning the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1972. Translated into more than forty languages, the novel made him a prominent figure in world literature. He received the medal of the Legion of Honor in 1984. His style is a mix between a narration influenced by the oral traditions of the Turkish bards and a more Western influence such as the use of a genre sometimes close to the mainstream of consciousness. His activism against the brutality of the Turkish power against the Kurdish minority has earned him numerous trials.
