ABOUT THE ARTWORK

We met at the park and agreed that’s how things should be. It was over. I was sad but I knew it was for the best. It was never going to work. That day was the last time I ever saw her. I stayed after she left, and I sat on the Yellow Duck Spring Rider.

Born in 1981 in Salt Lake City (Now resides in Dallas, TX) Ryan McKee started oil painting at a young age. “I knew I wanted to get good at oil painting, but I didn’t know how to get there. It all seemed daunting, the different mediums and the various technical aspects of painting. It felt like it would take an eternity to get where I wanted to be”. He dropped out of a college oil painting class in 1999 and continued self-taught. He began developing his unique style and approach by studying other successful painters and their methods, slowly crafting an approach that would become his own. “I want to make images that will become iconic in the future, the same way artist Andrew Wyeth’s “Christina’s World” is iconic”. “I want my paintings to be around for a long time so every detail of their conceptualization, execution, etc. from the surface down to the frame is meticulously thought out. “I’m constantly reading and studying the craft of oil painting, always stiving to improve and make the next painting better than the last”. His paintings are designed to take you to a place you can’t put your finger on, but you know you’ve been, somewhere familiar…perhaps in a dream you can now only faintly recall.
