About The Artwork

The beach paintings portray images that make spectators look twice when they appear in their daily lives. Twice, because the first look is cut short due to social constraint, while the second glance is hidden, a sneak peak. Curiosity is generated by what society prefers we ignore, images often based on others’ vulnerability. The subjects, who for the most part are indiscriminate (albeit easily discriminated), are exploring juxtaposed environments, varying from leisure to solitude, the consciousness of an apparent fragility against the subtle and false confidence of a spectator who thinks they are observing, not being observed. While looking at a painting, we are expected to observe and interpret, not look the other way, even if tempted to glance. These paintings therefore allow the spectator to glance freely while wandering through reflections on what to feel or think or on what they (actually) feel or think.”

My paintings bring together an analysis of the human form and skin texture with different social and political conceptions. I apply colour to enhance the moment and state in which the subject is inserted and perceived, without intending to portray things as they are in terms of pictorial reality. I want to explore details in colour, brush strokes and lines in order to increase the expression of a body. On most cases, I explore some kind of critique, social or political. I first started painting as a graffiti artist and then converted to canvasses through an intense passion for surealism. Currently, I am neither a surrealist, nor a graffiti artist, but I consider that I have absorved these two styles, blending other more traditional perspectives that I have grown to love. Today I think my work mixes a bit of these three element: graffiti and street art, with surrealism and conventional painting.
