About The Artwork

Delaware-based artist, Jean Diver, new works, blur the lines between realism and abstract expressionism. Diver uses acrylic and oil paint on canvas, particularly acrylic, Scraping, sanding, with thick and thin paint to create an ethereal experience for the viewer. "Emil Carlsen's abstract composition and style of impressionistic paintings rang true to me, when I first discovered him." says Diver. "I have been inspired by Emil, N.C. Wyeth, Pushman, and Pierre Bonnard's still life work, lately." According to the Diver, “For me, art has always served as a portal – something that takes the viewer to another place.”

Her work creates a mesmerizing effect, which encourages the viewer to stop and contemplate. Purposely providing very little contextual details, Diver uses the ambiguity in her work to allow her audience to formulate their own interpretation.
