About The Artwork

The banal, the quotidian, the obvious, the ordinary, the habitual? How do we speak of these common things? Trying to find a language that can adequately convey quotidian complexity. Such an elusive concept for the over familiar ‘thing’. More challenging to decipher than we think. These are a site specific collection of works within a confine of rudimentary bodily needs. The bathroom is a space where each of us deals directly with our bodies and confronts whatever it provides, thus the objects that reside in that space, evacuate that surplus. These things are recipients that contain our dejecta, engaging the interaction between bodies and objects. In a place of cleansing and aiding in ‘presentation of self’, why should these objects not have notoriety and subject to discussion! Linda paints transcendent objects of the most mundane nature, leaving images with a higher concept than aesthetic value. Displaying Utilitarian in a new context, through speculative realism with techniques creating volumetric illusion through manipulating light and shadow. The subject matter almost engulfs the canvas so that the object must allude to nothing beyond what it is. This intention is to do with the lure of the ordinary and to highlight our problem of attention.

Loushi is a Limerick based Visual artist has just recently finished a BA Degree in Fine Art Painting at the Limerick School Of Art and Design, gaining an Honors Degree. She has showcased in exhibitions Ireland and also internationally, from Rome to the USA. The painting medium of choice is oil paints as the pigment is richer and more vivid than other mediums in which they cannot compete with the quality of the oil paints. Old master techniques are used for example grisialle and chiaroscuaro to create moody and dramatic still life compositions.
