ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The painting seems to explore the duality of human nature, the contrast between the seen and unseen, or perhaps the conscious and subconscious. The obscured figure could represent the parts of ourselves we keep hidden or are yet to discover, while the detailed figure might symbolize the aspects we present to the world or are more aware of. It invites contemplation on identity, perception, and the complexity of the human psyche.

El Greta (b. 1991) is a distinguished Armenian artist, whose academic journey culminated with her graduation from the State Academy of Fine Arts of Armenia in 2014. Currently based in Yerevan, her creative expressions predominantly manifest through paintings characterized by static objects, nudity, and a monochrome palette. Embracing Neofigurative Expressionism, El Greta delves into the myriad facets of human existence, exploring the boundless diversity of human manifestations through her art. El Greta's oeuvre has been showcased across various prestigious platforms, marking her presence in the Armenian and international art scenes. Noteworthy exhibitions include her participation in the Artists' Union of Armenia Spring Salon in March 2011, a solo exhibition at the Chamber Theatre in 2012, and a display of her works at the Albert and Tovboyajyan Gallery in 2013. Further extending her artistic dialogue, she contributed to an exhibition in Georgia in 2013, commemorating Mother's Day, organized by the Armenian Diocese of Georgia. Her continued engagement with the Artists' Union of Armenia was evident in her participation in a graduate exhibition in 2014 and a commemorative exhibition for the centenary of the Armenian Genocide in 2015. El Greta's collaboration with contemporary writer Aram Pachyan in 2015, facilitated by modern artist Levon Fljyan at the Contemporary Art Museum, highlights her interdisciplinary approach. In 2016, her art reached a wider audience through an exhibition sale at the UN representation residence in Armenia. The year 2017 saw her captivating solo exhibition "Blue Reflection" at Dalan Art Gallery, followed by a notable exhibition at the Yerevan City Hall titled "Look at the City." Her artistic journey continued with participation in the "Story of a Canvas" exhibition at Arhvestanoc Gallery in 2019. El Greta's art is a reflective exploration of human identity and experience, inviting viewers into a contemplative dialogue through her Neofigurative Expressionist lens. Her contributions to the art world are marked by a deep engagement with thematic diversity and a profound exploration of the human condition.
