This series started out, as most series do, with a single painting. Titled notes to self: remember to giggle, it was a reminder to not take myself so seriously. The painting started as a series of dark shapes, reminiscent of Matisse silhouettes, it reflected all the things currently in my world that were stifling joy. And so, notes to self: remember to giggle, was born. Inspired by that success, my this work tackled another heavy subject, being strong and true to my convictions, taking risks, and believing in the power of positivity. notes to self: choosing courage is that painting. Over forty layers of glaze, oil pastel, mica powders and acrylic paint are sandwiched on a 36” x 36” canvas. Starting with the dark silhouettes again, working flat on a large table, each layer is applied with dedication to the task: reminding myself that courage comes from embracing the unknown, and curiosity sparks adventures. Alison Price has a BA in Studio Arts from Augsburg University, Minneapolis, and holds a MA from the University of Wisconsin. Her award winning work is internationally and nationally collected, including the FBI, Capital One, BKV Group, and Sons of Norway.

My family moved to the US from a tiny island in the English Channel. As a child, I would play in the tidal pools, explore the forests, and very carefully, very, very carefully, walk along the cliffs. Guernsey is still my heart, although now the hearty state of Minnesota is my home. My love for water, the sea, the stones and rocks, the trees and wildlife, are combined with my passion for travel and history, and somehow, all this tumbles out onto the canvas. My current series are Purely Textural, Witnessing Waves, Shifting, Road Trip, and my zero waste project, the tiny Fireflies. I hope you enjoy my art, and are able to explore a bit of the magic the canvas holds.
