In the 1930s, David Alfaro Siqueiros, a Mexican painter known for his beautiful frescoes, experimented with pouring paint. He poured a black puddle of low viscous paint on a painting surface, then poured white liquid paint over the black. He described this new technique as his “accidental painting”. Today, we call it acrylic pours. It is believed that Siqueiros introduced Jackson Pollock to the drip and pour method of painting. Pollock was the first contemporary painter who experimented with creating fine art without a brush touching the canvas. He did use brushes, but only to “deliver” the paint to the canvas. Pour acrylics, is one of the many new styles of painting that was seen coming out of the art world at the end of the 20th century. Acrylic pour painting is a technique used to create paintings with natural flowing patterns. The effect combines acrylic paint with a liquid medium. This mixture is then “poured” onto a surface and spread around, manipulating the paint by various means. Collectors will enjoy the exciting and vibrant colors and compositions and will imagine them visually uplifting their personal space. The unusual color palettes elicit emotions from wonder to mystery. Buyers frequently want to know the process of creation, which I always enjoy explaining. Acrylic paint is a chemical chameleon; it can be mixed to the consistency of water- color, or be used to create three dimensional elements, and everything in between. The colors are bright and clear, and it dries quickly. Describing subject matter in a contemporary abstract painting is not productive or useful. The compositions are dynamic and colorful, sometimes mesmerizing. I have never before felt the excitement and energy I feel while bringing these images to life.
