My name is Helena Schotman, born in 1992 on a house-boat located in an idyllic village north of Amsterdam. I grew up in a rather creative and loving family that gave inspiration and motivation to my creative development. I started with drawing/ painting wen I was very young. I exchanged my secondary school to a study at the education for Media Art and Design at the Creative Industry school in Amsterdam. When I was in my 4th year I was invited to teach drawing and painting to the first year students. I finished this school this year (2013). The style of my work is characterized by Earth-like color, surrealism, spirituality, nature and the female. The absence of boundaries in the extent of the universe inspires me to abandon the fixations on daily earthly reality and leads me to the voyage in surrealism. Endless fascination on the strength, sensitivity sensuousness and beauty of the female. She is an important theme recurrent in my works. Nature is another of my greater sources of inspirations as I like to spend my time in nature quite a lot. My search continues into the deeper characters of human spirituality where my dreams guide my way and reflect into my works. I do like to experiment using combinations of abstracts and surrealism. Besides painting and drawing I also pose as a model to students and artists. I get by participating new inspiration from here that do contribute to my personal development as well. Furthermore I have made several video impressions on various topics, practice Photography and photo manipulations. I also adore playing music Cello, singing and recently the N'goni (African Harp). I also have a big passion to dance besides making music and painting. My plans for the upcoming months is to travel a lot and during these travels convert the impressions into many pieces of art, enabling further progressing of my style of work.
