I explore the process and physicality of painting, with the aim to show its materiality in each piece of my work. There are no pre-conceived plans or processes that i intend to explore with regards to achieving the end aesthetic. My paintings go beyond just simply reading the picture plane in a visual sense – they invite the viewer to question the physical gestation of each piece.

United Kingdom
Graduated from University of Ulster (Belfast) in 2010. Currently working on some new works :) Born in 1987. My paintings explore the physicality and process of painting and I like the paintings to show that materiality when they are finished. When I work I have no pre-conceived plans of how the painting will look or what processes will be used to make it. I aim to make clear the material construction within the finished composition - I want this to be evident to the viewer. The paintings are almost like still images of a series of gestural moments - they invite the viewer to question the methods of mark making used. There is a fine balance between what I want the painting to do and what the painting wants to do - the resulting dialogue across those two positions is of continuous fascination to me. For me, my palette is the canvas where composition and colours are worked out on it. Whether the colour goes or doesn't go with the colour next to it is of little importance to me, it is the relations that are thrown up out of the random application of paint that creates the interest in the painting. The history of the making process is revealed through layers which open the painting up physically to the viewer. I want to go beyond just simply reading the picture plane in a visual sense - I want the viewer to question the physical gestation of each piece.
