Ships in a Crate
I create stainless steel iron and titanium canvases cut with a metal laser. Each painting goes through several steps to complete the physical appearance of the painting itself. What left a mark on me since my childhood were the colours used on cars, trucks, ships and boats. Those colours can resist heat, cold, water and even chemicals which was always so fascinating to me. I wanted to combine traditional chinese lacquer techniques with highly developed contemporary lacquers. The series of paintings I am working on right now are techniqually gouache paintings on stainless steel.

Germany
Born in 1985 in Germany. Veit Schmidleitner had an education as a Varnisher and received his apprenticeship diploma in 2007. He studied graphic design in Marbella / Spain. Back in Germany he worked as a post producer for photography and got into working with metal through his Father and Mentor Günter De Rosa. Schmidleitner started creating large-scale metal sculptures in 2011 and assisted other artists to complete their works. While working on commissions, Schmidleitner developed a way of merging laser cutting with his unique painting technique which enabled colours and shapes to form his own visual language which commonly depicts religious and social occurrences. He uses cryptographic elements to develop a story that is not being told, but rather needs to be called into question and interpreted. Colours are given a specific meaning and coupled with theme and presentation. With the gloss surface, viewers are exposed from different angles, to their own reflection and are thus an interaction of the form and color of the artwork.
