Coupure°2 is part of a series. Each work of this series is based on the idea to control the surface of the painting and its conduct in conjunction with light. You can focus on the artwork itself or you can look at yourself on the painted surface. Through the gloss and the reflection, the room and also the viewer become part of the artwork. Because of the cuts and the splits everything seems to be distorted. Technique: Before the process of painting begins, the components of the of the artwork have to be cut out of metal sheets with a laser. After this, all parts are connected with microscopically small weld seams - this is comparable with the work of an goldsmith. After several self developed procedure, each part of the work is coated with an absorbent primer, which serves as the base for gouache and clear lacquer. Following this, various coatings will be brushed on. After each coating and its hardening the coating will be sanded smooth. This procedure has to be repeated severals times. As a result of this, the surface of the painting is similar to glass. This technique is known from China.

Germany
Born in 1985 in Germany. Veit Schmidleitner had an education as a Varnisher and received his apprenticeship diploma in 2007. He studied graphic design in Marbella / Spain. Back in Germany he worked as a post producer for photography and got into working with metal through his Father and Mentor Günter De Rosa. Schmidleitner started creating large-scale metal sculptures in 2011 and assisted other artists to complete their works. While working on commissions, Schmidleitner developed a way of merging laser cutting with his unique painting technique which enabled colours and shapes to form his own visual language which commonly depicts religious and social occurrences. He uses cryptographic elements to develop a story that is not being told, but rather needs to be called into question and interpreted. Colours are given a specific meaning and coupled with theme and presentation. With the gloss surface, viewers are exposed from different angles, to their own reflection and are thus an interaction of the form and color of the artwork.
