This work is a studio painting of a dramatic sky encountered one winter evening in a suburban district of Liverpool, UK.

Captured by photograph initially, it depicts the treeline of Mossley Hill, and across the Mersey to the distant lights of the Wirral with the Welsh hills beyond.

The work was quickly rendered with expressive brushwork in an attempt to retain something of the fleeting nature of the moment, the movement of the brooding clouds, and the spectacular, darkening sky.

Its title is a reference to the motto of the nearby township of Wavertree, similarly consumed by the city.

Exhibited at the Williamson Gallery, Birkenhead.
