The Northern White Rhino is among five pieces of art Ms. Sloan has completed representing the 5 species of Rhinos that exist. Among the most endangered the Northern White Rhino, a subspecies, has been reduced to only 2 females living in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya. The highly textured surface is achieved with latex that is painted and torn to achieve an added dimension. The beautiful lacelike quality of the surface is delicate yet the implication of decay is deliberate within the context of the subject. Dimensions of the original include the frame, plexiglass window, and hanging hardware. Ms. Sloan will donate 30% of the money she receives for this piece to the International Rhino Foundation.
