Piano Painting

The final and largest work created in my 2014 Koi series. The series was inspired by a visit to the Imperial Palace East Gardens, Tokyo. I wanted to create what I felt while sitting at the edge of the koi pond, nothingness, and everything; a feeling of zen. I'm of the opinion that a painting doesn't always have to "say something", but rather be quiet and allow the viewer to sink into it, reaching for a meditative state. Perhaps the painting listens instead of speaks. That's how I felt next to that koi pond; I intend for the viewer to feel the same. The polyurethane finish mimics the sheen of the water's surface. The Sumi ink and spray paint lines resemble the inside of a piano, with the sense of distant music. Painted on a maple veneer panel, 2" deep box frame painted sides (no framing req'd), hanging hardware included
