About The Artwork

#4 of 6 in a series showing the process in creating this painting. 11-30-2011. It sat while the paint and varnish dried. I tried to figure out where to go with it, while I worked on other things. Colors are better, but the proportions and perspective still isn't right. The next version I made the clouds and breaking wave bigger. I should've stayed with the 2 section horizon line. This piece doesn't work. Dang it. So I was looking at this painting again. It wasn't suppose to look realistic. I was exploring horizontal sections and proportions. Artists and photographers talk about the "rule of thirds" to make a well balance composition. How unoriginal, boring and shows no creative process. Rules are overrated and often stifling. Even though this image only shows a portion of the canvas, it shows 5 distinct horizontal areas. If you look closer at the full original there are 5 more. The final version of this was distilled and simplified to 2 main areas and 1 subtle zone. The more you look, the more you see.

I love a good medium rare rib-eye (edit: to many happy cow videos on Facebook. I'm turning vegetarian.), garlic mash potatoes and a nice glass of red. But I'm not having it for dinner every night. Just like my art work, I'm not gonna do the same thing every day. I’m always exploring different types of media, styles and especially ideas to create unique works. That said I do have a certain aesthetic all my own. I put a lot of thought into my work, there is a deeper meaning and it's not all about creating eye candy. My art is for those who appreciate originality and don't buy into what's "trending." Life is Art p.s. Hummus is horrible, but I love that cucumber, mint, yogurt thing.
