About The Artwork

Painting: Japanese, Chinese ink, mineral pigment on rice paper. The Cormorant Immersed In Infinity, Contemporary Sumi Painting This Zen style ink wash painting is brushed with pure pine tree soot sumi and indigo blue pigment. I have depicted the cormorant with a concise pictorial language and a reduced color palette to render the subject with the highest expressiveness. 'The cormorant immersed in infinity' is an image born from my heart. Strolling along the coast of the Majorcan island, I often met this solitary cormorant standing on a rock, drying his wings in the sun, looking at the infinite blue of the Mediterranean summer sky. To create this scenery I have depicted the cormorant and the rock in very few brushstrokes and bluish gray tones, avoiding any possible distraction of form or color. This ink painting features the strength of the brushstroke of Japanese calligraphy in my freehand brush work. This contemporary cormorant painting is mounted with cream-colored silk, which harmonizes perfectly with the bluish gray tones of the sumi painting. The hanging scroll has a natural wooden roller at the bottom and is ready to be hung on the wall. Size of the scroll in cm: 246 x 88.5 x 0,2 cm. The wooden scroll adds 5 cm or 1.96 inches on each side.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My artwork comprises Zen calligraphy, watercolor and ink paintings, and abstract calligraphies. My mediums are ink, watercolors and natural pigments on rice paper, mainly Xuan paper. I wield the Chinese and Japanese brush, preferably the flexible sheep's hair brush. Many of my Zen calligraphies express the Emptiness teaching from the Heart Sutra, which has been the original inspiration for my Japanese calligraphy artwork. Other calligraphies focus on the teachings of the Diamond Sutra, Platform Sutra, or depict Zen koan, Zen poetry or single kanji. In my watercolors and ink paintings I strive for a pictorial synthesis of the subject, in the spirit of Japanese ink painting, using bold washes and vivid brush strokes.
