About The Artwork

Artist Gilad Ophir (Tel Aviv 1957) is currently working on a new body of work. He is intensively involved with mixed-media work and combined practices of photography, painting, charcoal drawing, and photo-based processes. In this group of visual works Ophir examines and explores the changing means to image-making, post-medium production and our own relationship to the interpretation of images. The connection that Ophir makes is between hand-operated and material work and common digital technologies, such as a desktop computer, scanner, cameras, and inkjet printing. Ophir's work constantly measures the span of tensions between controlled actions and arbitrary ones, and the metamorphosis of meaning. His ambition is to create new structures (visible or covert) in abstraction, within the internal organization of the image.
