ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The photographs included in Series Twelve are dynamic and colorful images infused with motion and energy. The inspiration for this series stems from my life long love of Abstract Expressionism and is an attempt to draw from that period through photography rather than with pigment and brush. I create the background and then introduce fabrics over it chosen for their color and surface texture, add motion and then photograph intuitively as the surface elements fly about. I think these are rich images which I hope convey both meditative and creative responses for the viewer.

When I was a child I was surrounded by painters; my mother, great uncle, brother in law and several friends all had a strong influence on me from both their talent and their dedication to artmaking. I learned to develop black and white film and make contact prints when I was about 8 or 9 years old, and as I grew up I continued to gravitate to photography. Part of my motivation is to try and provide non traditional photographs which may provide a bit of a challenge and surprise for the viewer.
