John Cage wrote: "… However, the work may be performed by any intrumentalist(s) and the movements may last any lengths of time." What happens when we follow Cage’s instructions to the performer in photography? Three movements of unspecified duration, author and performer irrelevant, the instrument is photographic. For photography too the silence does not exist. Thermal noise of the sensor, pixel compression: an environment that leaves a trace on every image. 89’10” would be the title of this performance according to Cage’s specifications. The model, just like the performer who is asked to refrain from touching the piano, is unaware and lends the skin as a background that lets the rest take centre stage.
