About The Artwork

All components of the artwork were taken or created by the author Palace Edition (limited to 7 ud): - Total size: 152.4 x 210 cm - 60 x 82.7" - Image size: 140 x 193 cm - 55.1 x 76" - Margin size: 6.2 x 8.4 cm - 2.4 x 3.3" Artwork description: Although we do not realize about it, amongst the first sounds that we hear when we arrive in a city are the singings of the birds. In my case, the first that caught my attention just after arriving Melbourne was a bird couple two meters above me, calmly enjoying a perfect day. There they were, unaware of their importance to me, being the first time in my life that I saw birds like them. Up until then I was ignorant about their existence and I gaze at them as though they were a new species recently created. I found many other unknown birds in Australia. Others, also living in Europe, surprised me both in nature and in the middle of the cities, replete with green areas, inviting birds to explore urban zones. This artwork shows a European old balcony which resembles me a rickety birdcage. I image the great number of birds that could find rest in its structure. Awards: This artwork has been awarded an “Honorable Mention” in the international photographic competition “Chromatic Awards”, 2017, professional fine art category. Significance of the artwork: This artwork shows us that getting old does not mean getting ugly: beauty finds its way to keep shining. Note: the Spanish title for this artwork is “Balcón Plumicromado”, which is a play on words between feather (“pluma”) and polychromatic (policromado). - About the media: About the brand of the paper, I use Canson because they provide outstanding quality paper. They have been in the market producing paper for artists for over 400 years. About the particular model of paper, I have selected Canson Infinity Edition Etching Rag 310 gsm, a 100% cotton Fine Art matte paper. This matte paper, with a smooth texture, provides a pictorial look which suits this artwork perfectly well. Having said that, Canson Baryta Photographique 310 gsm also has a striking effect with this artwork; contact Saatchi or me by email if you prefer your artwork with the satin finish that Baryta provides. After returning to his place of origin, he will observe it in a different way, as his references will have changed. This artistic series shows the spontaneous visions of a past period in my life, my stay in Australia for 5 years, mixed with scenes of my current daily life. In most cases these visions include two elements: the Australian natural heritage with the (European) cultural heritage. Nature reminds us of where we are coming from. Culture, how far we can go. With this series I have wanted to experience how both worlds could interact if they were merged. An impossible desire to satisfy, but at least visually possible now

I was born in Barcelona (Spain) in 1977. Shortly after I moved to Madrid and then to Cáceres, a small but charming town, as evidence the fact that it is a World Heritage Site by Unesco. I remember my childhood climbing to every place I could, continuously running, playing and fighting with my siblings, visiting the countryside every weekend, reading all I could (I used to devour Roald Dahl’s books), spending time with friends in the old town of Cáceres and travelling around Europe with my family in summer. I discovered my passion for photography at the age of 13. Something great happened before buying my camera: I went to the shop so many times to ask doubts that finally the bookseller gave me a photography book, which I instantly memorize, what helped me to become a better photographer from the beginning and to boost my motivation. At the age of 15 I had to move to Madrid. In that complex period of transition, at least I had my camera to keep creating and investigating new techniques. Soon I became interested in multiple exposures and zoom burst, techniques that helped me to win my first photography competitions, already in college time. In that same period, I bought a medium format camera. This type of camera has a higher film size than a full frame camera. Despite its weight, it helped to further increase my passion for photography, not only for its impressive image quality but for its absence of automatisms, what made the shooting a more premeditated, elaborated and artisanal act. At the end of my university studies I passed a test to be able to enrol in a studio photography course. Working in a studio, with just the dimly modelling lights of the flashes, it turns out and continues to be a fascinating experience to me. For the training, we used large format cameras, which are cameras with a very big film size, able to produce breathtaking quality. Finally, I enrolled in a digital photography retouching course, which was exactly what I needed to create my artistic compositions. All this resulted in new sources of motivation for my photography. When I finished my degree, I traveled to England for a year trying to leave behind my academic studies, but finally I had to find a job as an engineer. After more than a decade working and living in different cities and countries, I decided to return to my almost natal Cáceres, to focus my activity on artistic photography.
