"A Secret Life of Animals" re-appropriates images of the natural world and aims to create an intimate connection between man and nature.

In a Canadian forest, I have camouflaged infra-red cameras on trees to obtain nocturnal images of animals. I was accompanied by a ranger who guided me through a forest where bears, deer and wolves can be seen.

Back to my studio, I use these black and white photos as a basis to create my artwork.
I reconfigure the photographic infra-red image.
My process involves several stages using acrylic painting and photographic transfer while applying special effects such as smoke and shadows during a photographic cession in my studio.

I aim to interpret the secret, captured in these territories where humans are excluded. The fog that I create on my photographs veils the animal and thus broadens the sense that it’s a captured image from a secret life.

Anne Brenner is a Paris-based artist. Though educated in France, she was born in Canada, where she spent her early childhood. The early experience of the Canadian natural wide open spaces and later the classical painting of European profoundly influenced her art practice that reflects a realistic and poetic approach of ecological issues. After graduating from the École des Beaux Arts in Paris and from Fine Arts University Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne, she was awarded the Villa Medicis Hors-les-Murs Grant. This grant has allowed her to work one and a half year in Africa where she undertook a project about animal tracks. This series eventually led to the work she is doing today. Anne has exhibited in several venues including the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris and The Royal Academy, London. Solo exhibitions include City of Sciences and Art, La Villette, Paris and Museum of Natural History, Grenoble, France.
