A Very Large Nose Ring - Limited Edition 1 of 1 Photograph

This work originated with a photograph of the pre-Hispanic figurine represented that was made in Mexico. The original image was manipulated in my computer, one print was made and the manipulated file was deleted. I then painted the manipulated print using acrylics and brush pens. Next I created the frame using recycled materials. The frame style was inspired by the folk art I've seen in Mexico and Central America. The painted piece is printed on acid free paper with archival inks and is attached to the backing board with acid free adhesive. I have visited and photographed these figurines in museums in Mexico several time. They always affect me powerfully...seeming both primitive and futuristic. I never wanted to just document them. Why? Rather I wanted to hop on, clime inside and see where they might take me.
