As a colourblind photographer I view the world differently than most people. I experiences the world with less colour, not without, but in my daily life there are plenty of situations in which I am not experiencing colour in the same way as other not-colourblind people. With my series of landscapes I try to recreate the colours I see when using my colour correcting glasses (Enchrome glasses). However I know for sure that how the viewer experiences the colours in the work is differently than how I experience the work. With my work I try to make an attempt to connect between the realism of a landscape and the possible interpretation. By applying abstraction, I investigates the dynamics of landscapes including the manipulation of its effects and the limits of spectacle based on our assumptions of what a landscape means to us. 'A brief look at the airport' is a photograph of the airport of Nice in France. The mediterranean blue sea shows it's colours in photograph. The artwork is printed on Hahnemühle German Etching paper here in Amsterdam. The paper gives a painterly/watercolour vibe to the photo. The paper is on an aluminum frame for direct wall mount. This photo is 30x30 cm comes in an edition of 6. This is 1/6. Artwork certified, numbered and signed by the artist.

Merette Uiterwaal (b. 1990, The Netherlands) is a photographer interested in the simplicity of everyday life. Due to her colour blindness, Uiterwaal views the world in an unusual way. Her abstract portraits investigate the dynamics of the landscapes of our surroundings. The resulting, surreal images are open for the viewer's interpretation and understanding. Photography platform GUP New selected her as one of the New Dutch Photography Talents for 2021. She is currently living and working in Zaandam, The Netherlands.
