The apparent triviality of the jelly flowing from the mouth becomes a cipher for a critique of fetishized femininity, omnipresent in consumer society. The African origin of the woman adds another layer of meaning to the whole, bringing the dialectic of identity and culture to the fore. It's as if the work deconstructs the illusion of consumer culture to expose the complexity of human experience. The iconic works of Pop Art could be considered distant relatives of this work, but here the boundary between high culture and mass culture is not only blurred but questioned. The work is a contemporary enigma, confronting the viewer with questions about identity, desire, and the complex nature of human existence.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

The focus of ARTURUTRA is mouths. Yet these fragmented bodies do not conform to classical portraits. They often resemble staged still lifes. The works are characterized by a narrative ambiguity. The viewer sees and must fill in the missing elements themselves. Perhaps they view with the eyes constantly absent in the works. Then, the depicted mouths speak with the inner voice of the observer.
