It is an age-old symbol of desire and attraction, captured through the centuries in countless artistic representations, from the sensual depictions of female deities in ancient art to the provocative female portraits of Gustave Courbet. This saliva-dripping portrayal leads us to the fringes of sensuality and taboo. It points to both the fascination and the fear of the corporeal, of the living, fleeting, and vulnerable human body, capable of ecstasy as well as pain. It alludes to the complexity of human desire, to its depth, darkness, and unpredictability, reminding us that desire lies not only in the smoothness of the beautiful, but also in its fluid, unpredictable, and untamed nature.

The focus of ARTURUTRA is mouths. Yet these fragmented bodies do not conform to classical portraits. They often resemble staged still lifes. The works are characterized by a narrative ambiguity. The viewer sees and must fill in the missing elements themselves. Perhaps they view with the eyes constantly absent in the works. Then, the depicted mouths speak with the inner voice of the observer.
