Artificial Light (AL) is a series of images using landscape and still-life images with a digital overlay. The series theme explores the concept of positive and negative space in photography. We often think of negative space in photography as black or empty, but there are other ways to define negative space. I have created visual energy between positive and negative space by digitally painting graphic shapes onto my images to manifest another element of space. I have chosen colors to balance the compositions and create harmony with the background image. I have used an algorithm with filters to create directional movement, as seen in Pink Sky and Artificial Light.

Marc VanDermeer who goes by the online nom de guerre, VanDi, is a mixed media digital artist from the USA. A traditional abstract artist started painting at the age of ten. He was initially taught by his artist/sculpture and poet mother, Carol Levy Vandermeir. His formal art education began at the Philadelphia College of Art (UArts) in 1971, graduating with a degree in film in 1976. He followed with continued part-time education at SVA, Parsons, and Silvermine School of Art. Working across a pastiche of artistic genres and style in a creative mélange of thought-provoking fantasy and surreal imagery. His body of work expresses his flirtation with photography, painting, and digital media. He is crossing modern expressionism, street art, collage, classicism, landscape painting, pop art, minimalism in an artistic mash-up of award-winning art. VanDi explains, “Legacy for me is paramount; I see myself as carving that legacy each time I produce something new.” When asked to define his style or influences, Marc replies It’s challenging to describe my current style, which is dictated by both anatomical observation and mood. Choosing sometimes to express his thoughts and philosophy on canvas or the digital screen. Producing colorful mood evoking art or graphics in black & white." The artist, a lover of classic art and new NFT media, has been in over twenty group and virtual shows in the past twelve months alone. “Art is both an addiction and cathartic part of my daily day.” Marc has no current representation; his physical work is available on Saatchi Art and his website. His NFT work may be seen or purchased on Bitski., Opensea, Kalamint, and Async Art. All links: http://marcvandermeer.net/bio https://linktr.ee/mvd953
