About The Artwork

Artthrópoda Project is an artistic process performed (Textile Design and Photography) by visual artist Leo Carreño (Bucaramanga, Colombia). It starts with the handmade preparation of a natural, not industrialized, raw vegetable latex (textile confection) followed by the textile confection as epidermic clothing on females’ bodies. The subjects then manipulate the material and tear the latex from their skin, representing the molting that takes place during the Ecdysis process of arthropods. Every action and stage are photographed and the result is free of any post-production, including digital retouching or Photoshop treatment, in order to document the plastic and staging processes and preserve the integrity of the project. The process ends with the printing of these images using natural pigments over 100% cotton paper (Gicleé process).
