About The Artwork

Hawai'ian youths wade out to greet the Li family of oyster fishers from Ping Shan, China who, after the three-month voyage to O'ahu, were distraught to discover that the Honolulu Symphony, the oldest symphonic orchestra west of the Rocky Mountains had filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and will soon dissolve. Mr. Li's illegal number 2 son Harvard Li, 21, a talented oboist, and skilled oyster fisher had hoped to use a position with the symphony to leverage his way to the top. Illegal daughter number 3, 6-year old Kiki Li, on shore preparing a sand pit for steaming the load of tasty bivalves they brought along, still hopes they will be able to continue on their journey to Los Angeles. 2010. Photographie composite, Diasec mount, ed. 3.
