About The Artwork

Beach Path at Dusk was selected by Kevin Tully for the online exhibition, Sanctuary, at the A. Smith Gallery in Johnson City, Texas, March 1 - April 11, 2024. My photo composite features a sandy path leading to Wingaersheek Beach in the distance on Cape Ann on the North Shore of Massachusetts. The grasses and path appear to be illuminated by moonlight. The stars shine in a navy blue sky. This image brings me peace, as I recall taking the individual photos in the composite; one while standing above the beach and the other on a quiet night in my back yard. My hope is that it allows the viewer a moment of quiet contemplation. The image is printed with a 1" white border on archival, acid-free, pH neutral, pure cellulose fine art paper. Matte finish. The photo will be signed and numbered ON THE BACK with archival ink and you will receive a certificate of authenticity. *Unmatted and unframed* This image is available in the following limited edition sizes. Prices may increase as editions sell: (15) 16 x 20" (14 x 18" + 1" border) (30) 11 x 14" (10 x 13" + 1/2" border) When the above limited editions sell out, the image will no longer be printed and sold as such. The artist reserves the right to use this image for commercial purposes. (90) 12 x 18" (10 x 16" + border) When the above limited editions sell out, the image will no longer be printed and sold as such. The artist reserves the right to use this image for commercial purposes. The photo is printed with a 1" border.

I make photos and create montages that capture beauty and evoke emotion, both of the natural world and of human-made structures and objects. At age 12, my dad gave me a vintage Argus C3 rangefinder camera. Around the same time I became interested in astronomy and saved my babysitting money to buy a used Celestron 6” Newtonian reflector telescope. My dad built me a little observatory on our back hill and darkroom space in the basement. I saved more money and filled it with used darkroom equipment, developing gelatin silver prints from my 35mm film. By night I was regularly gazing through time and space, acutely aware of the vastness of the universe and Earth’s insignificance within that space. But by day I was out with my camera marveling at nature and capturing the beauty of our little miracle planet. Today my childhood passions merge when I use my images of the night sky as a backdrop to elicit contemplation of our place in the universe. I still feel our planet is precious and continue to capture the beauty of it, but I cannot ignore the impact humans have on it due to population growth as well as political and economic factors. While do I capture the results of that impact, I also see beauty in our structures and objects.
